Maine famous

Short update from the island today to call out a recent article that the Portland Press Herald published on island life during a global pandemic. On Friday, I caught up with Kevin Thomas, a sportswriter who’s been pressed into general service given the lack of sports meets and matches to cover. Thomas and several other columnists at the Press Herald have put together a series about Mainers weathering the COVID storm, and our story just so happens to be one of them.

I particularly love how the piece captures why Kellie and I came to Peaks – two wannabe adults looking to get a little closer to home, a little closer to a sense of community. As Thomas notes: “He wanted to go smaller and his wife (Portland native Kellie MacDonald) wanted to be back in Maine. Their wish was for a smaller community, near the water, with proximity to the city. It added up to Peaks Island.”

Read more on the Press Herald’s website. And be sure to check out other articles in the Virus Diaries series including profiles of a thru-hiker on the AT and a couple expecting a baby in the midst of this medical crisis.
